Snowdonia National Park LodgesSnowdonia National Park was designated as a national park in 1951.  It is the largest national park in Wales and 3rd largest in England and Wales.  The park covers 823 square miles and attracts more than four million visitors each year.  The park is located between Cardigan Bay, Conwy Valley, Conwy Bay and the River Dyfi.

Mountains

Snowdonia attracts many hikers and climbers each year who hike up Mount Snowdon, or ‘Yr Wyddfa’ in Welsh which is 1085m high.  It is the highest peak within England and Wales.  There are over 90 summits over 600m high. Within the park there are 14 conservation areas and over 350 scheduled ancient monuments to enjoy.  Its harsh landscape is defined by its jagged peaks and windswept landscape.  There are over a hundred large lakes (over an acre) in Snowdonia.  These offer real beauty to walk round, paint or photograph. Around a fifth of the park is protected under both UK and European law to recognise its distinctive wildlife

History

These ancient mountains contain fossils and fragments from over 500 million years ago when it was part of the seabed. The ice age also played a key parts in shaping this beautiful rugged landscape.
